Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 2026
Welcome to Chromux Browser. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.
Core Principle: Chromux is designed to be a privacy-focused browser. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal browsing history, search queries, or private data on our servers. Your data stays on your device.
1. Information We Collect & Store Locally
All the following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- Browsing History & Bookmarks: Saved locally to provide quick access to your favorite sites.
- Cookies & Session Data: We store cookies to keep you logged in to websites (Persistent Login) and save your preferences. You can clear these at any time via Settings.
- Cached Data: Images and web files are cached locally to speed up browsing.
- Public Downloads: Files you download are saved to your device's public Downloads folder so they are visible in your Gallery and File Manager.
- Form Data: Usernames or text you choose to save for autofill.
- Tab States: Current open tabs and their scroll positions are saved locally to preserve your browsing session across app restarts.
- Media Playback Preferences: Your video/audio player settings (speed, quality, resume position) are stored locally for a personalized experience.
2. Permissions We Request
To provide essential features, Chromux requires certain permissions:
- Microphone (Record Audio): Used only when you explicitly tap the Voice Search icon. Audio data is sent to your device's speech recognition engine to convert speech to text. We do not store recordings.
- Storage (Files & Media): Required to:
- Download files and save images to your device
- Access media files (photos, videos, audio) for the built-in media player
- Hide and restore files from the Secure Vault
- Read media metadata for the music player (album art, artist info)
- Notifications (Android 13+): Required for:
- Download progress notifications
- Background media playback controls (for music/video player)
- You can revoke this permission at any time in Android settings
- Internet: Required to browse the web and fetch RSS news feeds.
- Network State: To detect connectivity and optimize content loading.
- Boot Completed: Used to restore pending downloads or resume background tasks after device restart. No data is collected.
3. Analytics & Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to improve app stability:
- Google Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics: We collect anonymous usage data (such as crash reports, app launch counts, and feature usage) to identify bugs and improve performance. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
- AdBlock & Filter Lists: The app uses built-in ad-blocking filter lists to protect your privacy from trackers. These lists are processed locally.
4. Secure Vault & Enhanced Privacy Protection
Chromux includes a private Vault feature for maximum privacy:
How Vault Works:
- Files moved to the Vault are encrypted and hidden locally on your device within the app's internal storage
- Protected by PIN authentication and security question recovery
- Supports all media formats: images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, etc.), videos (MP4, MKV, AVI, etc.), and audio (MP3, FLAC, AAC, etc.)
- Files are restored to a public folder (e.g., Chromux_Restored) to ensure accessibility
- Uses lightweight encryption to prevent unauthorized access
⚠️ Critical Warning: Uninstalling the app or clearing app data will permanently delete your Vault files. Please restore files before uninstalling.
5. Media Player & Web Background Play
Chromux allows playing local media and web content in the background:
- Local Playback Only: All media files are played directly from your device's storage. We do not upload or stream your personal media files.
- Playback History: Resume positions and playback preferences are stored locally to provide a seamless experience.
- Foreground Service: When playing audio/video in the background, a notification is shown (required by Android) to allow you to control playback.
- Speed Control: Playback speed (0.5x to 4x) preferences are saved locally.
6. Incognito Mode & Enhanced Security
We take your privacy seriously:
- Incognito Mode: Browsing history, cookies, form data, local storage, databases, and cache are strictly disabled and never saved. Screenshots are blocked in this mode for extra security.
- Do Not Track (DNT): Chromux automatically sends a "Do Not Track" signal to websites.
- HTTPS Upgrade: We prioritize secure HTTPS connections to prevent eavesdropping.
- Ad Blocker: Our built-in Ad Blocker prevents third-party tracking scripts from loading.
- Screenshot Blocking: Screenshots are blocked in incognito mode for extra privacy.
7. News & Search Services
- Search Suggestions: When you type in the address bar, your query may be sent to your selected search engine (default is DuckDuckGo or Google) to provide suggestions. You can disable this in Settings.
- News Feeds: The News section fetches RSS feeds from public sources. Your reading habits are processed locally. We do not track which articles you read.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Clear Browsing Data: You can delete history, cookies, cache, and saved passwords at any time from Settings.
- Vault Files: Restore and delete vault files whenever you want.
- Account Data: We do not maintain user accounts or cloud storage for browsing data.
- Analytics: Firebase analytics data is retained according to Google's data retention policy and is fully anonymized.
9. Children's Privacy
Chromux is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
10. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- All vault files are encrypted locally
- PIN authentication for vault access
- HTTPS-only connections when available
- No transmission of personal browsing data to external servers
- Secure storage using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences
11. Your Rights
As a Chromux user, you have the right to:
- Access all your locally stored data through the app's interface
- Delete any or all data at any time via Settings
- Export bookmarks and browsing history
- Revoke permissions at any time through Android Settings
12. Changes to This Policy

- Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Showing an in-app notification for significant changes
